Aston Martin marks 110 years since its formation in January 1913, with ‘exclusive special model’ planned

Aston Martin has announced plans to make 2023 a ‘year-long celebration’ of its 110th anniversary. Sunday, January 15 marks 110 years since the company’s founders, Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford, officially confirmed a partnership that lead to the first-ever Aston Martin in history, the ‘Coal Scuttle’ of 1915.

This year also marks 75 years of DB-badged cars, 60 years of the DB5, and 20 years since Aston moved into its purpose-built facility at Gaydon, Warwickshire.

Aston Martin plans to include a new car as part of its celebrations, described as ‘strictly limited’, set to be revealed later this year. It is not yet clear if this will take the form of a special edition (like the recently teased DBS 770 Ultimate) or a more bespoke one-off model.

The celebrations will continue in earnest at a number of major automotive events this year, including the British Grand Prix, Goodwood Festival of Speed, Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and others.

To mark the occasion, Aston Martin has released images of two of its models together, each separated by a decade or so of sports car production. The Aston Martin Valkyrie is shown alongside the record-breaking Razor Blade, one of the earliest cars to feature specifically designed aerodynamic features. The car achieved a number of class records at the Brooklands circuit in 1923.

“In 1913 Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford came together with a shared vision of racing cars and using learnings from the racetrack to push the boundaries of automotive innovation,” said Amedeo Felisa, Aston Martin Lagonda CEO. “110 years and little over 110,000 cars later, that spirit continues.”

Felisa also confirmed that 2023 will be the year when Aston fully reveals its next-generation sports car, the Valhalla: “Our 110th year promises to be just as exciting as our first, as we turn a new chapter in Aston Martin history with the launch of our next generation of sports cars and the reveal of an extraordinary special model later this year that will celebrate this unique milestone.”
