Plug-in hybrid Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and 4S E-Hybrid variants added to the recently revamped range
Porsche has expanded the third-generation Panamera range with the addition of two new plug-in hybrid variants. The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and 4S E-Hybrid sit below the Turbo E-Hybrid and above the combustion-only standard Panamera and Panamera 4. Prices for the 4 E-Hybrid start at £90,300, with the 4S version kicking off at £102,100; deliveries begin in Q2 of 2024.
The new Panamera E-Hybrid models are powered by a twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 engine paired with an improved hybrid system promising better electric-only range, faster charging, improved throttle response and more performance than the previous-generation car. A new 25.9kWh battery sits at the heard of this revised setup, topped up by an 11kW AC charger. Porsche claims a full charge time of two hours and 39 minutes, with a claimed electric range of 59 miles.
The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid produces a total of 470 PS (464bhp) and 650Nm of torque, enough for 0-62mph to be sorted in 4.1 seconds and a 174mph top speed. The 4S E-Hybrid is more powerful, with 544 PS (537bhp) and 750Nm of torque; 0-62mph is done in 3.7 seconds and top speed increases to 180mph.
Both models get four driving modes to make the most of their respective hybrid powertrains, along with improved Sport and Sport Plus modes. The E-Hybrid Panameras each start in pure-electric E-Power mode by default, switching to an optimised Hybrid Auto mode once the battery is depleted to a certain level.
Porsche claims that Hybrid Auto mode, which incorporated sat-nav data into its calculations, allows for “the proportion of electrically driven distances in city traffic [to be] be maximised and efficiency increased”. E-Hold mode allows for electrical power to be saved until it’s needed, while E-Charge mode uses the car’s engine to charge the battery up to 80 per cent when above 55km/h and ‘out of town’.
As with all new Panamera models, the E-Hybrid variants make use of Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) as standard, facilitated by a 400V electrical system to run hydraulic pumps.
Standard equipment on the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid includes 19-inch wheels, ParkAssist and a cooled smartphone tray to prevent overheating during wireless charging. The usual array of options are offered, included HD matrix LED lights, rear-axle steering and various active driver assistance features.
The 4S E-Hybrid steps up standard kit with 20-inch alloys, silver sport tailpipes and red brake callipers – or optionally Acid Green as per previous E-Hybrid cars. Ten-piston brakes are standard but the Porsche Carbon Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system is offered alongside 21-inch wheels as an option.
